Lee Bey on Sears Sunken Garden

Dear Friends of Sears Sunken Garden,

Lee Bey, architecture critic of the Chicago Sun-Times is a true fan of our efforts to restore Sears Sunken Garden. He reached out to us for updates on our progress and when we told him that we plan to begin the pergola restoration this summer, he wrote a great article that was published in the Sun-Times and on WBEZ’s website. This quote best expresses his enthusiasm:

“Friends of the Sunken Garden is still raising the cash to complete the entire project, and here’s hoping they get every cent. Having a Piet Oudolf-designed green space in a workaday neighborhood rather than in the middle of a city center is a coup — almost like having a corner library that was designed by Frank Gehry or the late Zaha Hadid.”

Your donation can help this home-grown project, led by residents of North Lawndale, restore the Sears Sunken Garden to serve as a beautiful amenity for Chicago residents and visitors. On-line charitable donations, in-memoriam gifts and corporate pledges will help us signal to the world that North Lawndale is a place of beauty, energy and possibility.
