In June, 2021, the Friends of Sears Sunken Garden organized an on-site community art making workshop, entitled “En Plein Air”. The historic garden pergola served as a salon for an intergenerational group of neighbors to paint and draw the composed still lifes and nature around them.
The event suggested one of the many ways the community can use the garden for restorative group activities. Everyone was invited to present their artwork to the rest of the group and all were amazed at how seriously the younger generation had embraced the assignment, pointing through their drawings to the necessity of conserving the existing tree canopy that borders the garden site.
