Pay: $30 per hour
Position Overview:
The Friend of Sears Sunken Garden Engagement Liaison is a part-time or contract role dedicated to connecting the Nichols Tower and North Lawndale communities with the historic Sears Sunken Garden. This position focuses on fostering broad community engagement through outreach, youth involvement, volunteer coordination, and digital storytelling.
The Liaison will promote awareness and support for the garden by creating meaningful experiences for diverse audiences—especially youth—while helping to preserve and enhance this treasured local landmark.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary ambassador for Friends of Sears Sunken Garden in community outreach, events, and stakeholder engagement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local residents, youth groups, schools, businesses, community organizations, and city officials in Nichols Tower and North Lawndale.
- Coordinate youth engagement initiatives that encourage young people to participate in volunteer activities and garden-related programs.
- Plan, recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to maximize community involvement.
- Create and share compelling digital stories (photos, videos, social media content) highlighting the garden’s history, events, and community impact.
- Manage communication channels including social media, newsletters, and email campaigns.
- Collect community feedback and provide insights to leadership to guide programming and improvements.
- Assist with grant writing and sponsorship efforts by providing data and success stories related to community and youth engagement.
- Support Board members with various projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in community outreach, youth engagement, volunteer coordination, and digital storytelling preferred.
- Passion for historic preservation, community development, environmental stewardship, and youth empowerment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a part-time or contract role.
- Proficiency with social media platforms, digital content creation tools, and basic office software.
